Larry played for NAU from 1965-66. As a player, Larry was a 5’10”, 215 pound guard from Northwood Institute, earned two letters in football.
Larry passed away from his loving family after complications from spinal surgery.
Larry grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Royal Oak Kimball High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Pressley in 1964. They moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he played college football at Northern Arizona University as a tackle and guard for all four years of college. He received his Bachelors degree in business in 1967. His first position after graduation, was with General Motors. He started with Ford Motor Company in 1970 and worked in various management positions for 35 years until he retirement in 2005. His work transferred him all over the country with his family. They relocated twelve times until his retirement in The Woodlands in 2005. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going on fishing trips and traveling with his friends and family all over the world. He worked with his son, Larry Vernier II at Architectural Sales Inc. briefly after retirement. He spent many hours picking up grandchildren for various activities and attending all their school functions. His poodle, Sammy was his constant companion during his retirement years.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Vernier and three precious children. He has six grandchildren: He is also survived by his mother, Melvina Vernier of Gladwin, Michigan and two brothers Doug Vernier of St. Clair, Michigan and Joel Vernier of Gladwin Michigan.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Douglas L Vernier.
