Wylie Smith, who worked in Northern Arizona University’s sports information department for 27 years, has died, school officials said. He was 56. Smith died of an apparent heart attack at his home here yesterday, according to school officials. He was an assistant sports information director from 1966 to 1973 before taking over as head of the department. He served in that capacity until last year. Smith, who graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1966 and later earned two other degrees at Northern Arizona, was inducted into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Jan, four children and four grandchildren.
