Michael Lee "Mike" Boettcher, 65 of Urbana, passed away, Sunday, July 4, 2010 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.He was born November, 29 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a 1962 graduate of Urbana High School.
Mike served his country in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam in the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment Combat Unit. After his honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, he attended Northern Arizona University; where he played football and received the Most Valuable Player and Division I - AA All American honors.
After returning to Urbana, he played men's fast pitch softball for Grimes Manufacturing and the Ohio Caverns Cavemen.
Mike was an outstanding athlete and received many awards and accomplishments including; induction into the Hall of Fame of Fast Pitch Softball on June 1, 1991 and was a power lifting champion.He was a supervisor at Navistar and was a sales manager at Bobby Fisher Distributing. For several years, Mike was an assistant football coach at Urbana High School and volunteered with the weight lifting program. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Chris Boettcher, his son, Levi M. Boettcher; his mother, Betty J. Boettcher Faulkner of Urbana, his brothers, Tracy Boettcher of Urbana & Brad A. (Cindy) Boettcher of Ft. Wayne, IN; his mother and father-in-law, Floyd and Connie Mangus, his brother-in-law, Jamie Mangus & his son, Seth all of Urbana, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
